Highway to the Danger Zone

Puffin approached us to help launch the first in a new series of books, aimed at teenage boys, Danger Zone. Written by David Gilman, screenwriter for (‘A Touch of Frost’), they’re like the Alex Rider stories, only better and with an environmental twist.

The first instalment, The Devil’s Breath, was released earlier this year and Puffin wanted things to go off with a bang, asking us in the first instance to develop a viral trailer video that they could use to seed interest in the book.

With a 2 week timescale, to script, storyboard and produce the video (and no real visuals other than a logo) it was a challenge but one we lapped right up. Both ourselves and the Puffin team were delighted with the result.

After the video launched, we set about devising the main website to coincide with the book launch. After reading the first book, we decided it would be fun to develop a treasure hunt style game based on events, locations and themes featured in the book.

This is just great!

David Gilman, author

We developed a relatively simple game that used GoogleMaps, throwing cryptic questions at the player the answers to which corresponded to a location in the world where one letter of a password could be found. when all the letters were found and the password cracked, players could enter the competition.

Alongside this we set up an author blog, and all in all it was a very successful project. The next book is due for release next year, hopefully Puffin will ask us back.
